About us

The Imam Ali Mosque started at humble beginnings when it was founded in 1986 by Ayatollah Dr. Sayed Talib Al-Husseini El-Refai. The property was originally purchased as a church that closed and was converted to the first Jaafari Islamic center to serve the people of the Greater Toledo area. The funding of the center was very limited, so extra renovation work couldn't be done. The prayer hall was filled with pews and the normal hall just had a simple stage and podium. Though the beginnings of this center's opening was hard, it still did not deter the lovers of the Ahlulbayt (PBUT) from stopping the rememberance of the Holy Household (PBUT).
